CBO: Workers remittances fell by 8.3% in 2019

MUSCAT (WAF): Data issued by the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) showed a decrease in the volume of remittances of foreign workers in the Sultanate by 8.3% in 2019 compared to 2018.

According to the most recent quarterly bulletin by the CBO, workers’ remittances amounted to 3.5 billion Omani Rials ($9.1 billion) in 2019, compared to 3.8 billion Omani Rials ($9.88 billion) in 2018.

Data by the National Center for Statistics and Information in Oman shows that the number of foreign workers decreased by 4.5% between 2018 and 2019. The number of foreign workers in the Sultanate reached 1.71 million in 2019, compared to 1.79 foreign workers in the Sultanate at the end of 2018.
