Muscat (WAF): Central Bank of Oman (CBO) told all banks that they should offer deferral of at least two monthly instalments, for personal loan borrowers in Dhofar and al-Wusta, an official public circulation said today.
“(Banks) should be considerate and reasonable in responding to the requirements of the public, as always”, the circulation said. It stated that these two-months exclude the regular Eid deferrals. And that the special deferral should be sufficiently publicised ”to enable the needy to avail the same”, the public document said. If the deferral deems not possible for any reason, CBO should be informed prior to any decision.
CBO’s statement said this procedure is exempted from “criteria on classification and provisioning requirements”
