Oman Sin Tax comes into effect in June

Muscat (WAF): Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said issued today a Royal Decree approving the Excise Tax – also known as Sin Tax- law.

As per the Royal Decree (RD), the new law is enforced after “90 days after the date of publication” in the Official Gazette. And the ministry of finance shall issue the Executive Regulations within six months after the RD comes into effect.

The Royal Decree is part of Oman’s commitment to the GCC agreement to introduce excise tax under the Common Excise Tax Agreement of the States of the GCC.

Tax on tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and energy drinks will be set at 100%, while on fizzy drinks will be set at 50%.
