MUSCAT (WAF): The Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOG) will sign tomorrow, 31st July 2019, an agreement to explore and produce gas from the Concession Block No. 77 with ENI and British Petroleum (BP).
According to a source familiar with the agreement, the onshore Block has acreage of 3,000 sq. km east of Block No. 61, the BP Oman-operated Khazzan Gas field. The new Block is located within the vicinity of the Block No. 6, in which PDO has oil exploration and production rights.
In January, the Omani Minister of Oil and Gas, Dr. Mohammed al-Rumhy signed the initial agreement with both ENI and BP as a preliminary step that led to signing the exploration and production agreement tomorrow.
The agreement will be signed by Eng. Salim bin Nasser al-Aufi, the Undersecretary of MOG.
The source told WAF News that ENI will be acting as the operator during the exploration phase, while BP Oman will be the operator once the block reaches the development and production phase.
“The exploration will be on two phases, each for three years”, the source added. This phase will include conducting the seismic surveys and drilling exploration wells.
