MUSCAT (WAF)- The Ministry of Energy and Minerals signed today an agreement with Majan Energy to develop Habhab oil filed located in Block 71.

The onshore 282 square kilometres concession area was originally part of Block 6 operated by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). The ultra-heavy crude field, Habhab, was discovered in 1982, yet several attempts to develop it were unsuccessful.

In 2018, Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals invited international and local players to have-a-go at Habhab to develop 1 billion barrels of ultra-heavy oil, according to PDO’s estimations.

As part of the agreement, Majan Energy is carrying out geological and geophysical studies for the field. The Company will drill appraisal wells and experiment with various enhanced oil recovery techniques.
